but yeah...those prices are HIGH. we went thrifting today, and snagged a bunch of winter items for a dollar each (because they didn't want to store winter items, and it's a small store) plus my mom got a 100% silk jacket off the FREE rack they had out front. we definitely made out there.
Free silk jacket? Nice score! A lot of the thrift shops here are priced higher (not nearly this ridiculous) for reasons unknown to me.... I guess they take the idea of NYC and jack up the prices because they think we can afford it? I don't know. I've yet to really look into shops in other boroughs, but it's on my list of things to do! Seeing as I don't live in Manhattan anyway....
we were shopping in a small town near houston, tx...and mama knows where the obscure thrift stores with excellent prices are! plus, this one helps people with mental illness and brain injuries, and since i have PTSD, i'm all about helping people get what help they can, you know?
That's great! This shop benefits research for Type 1 Diabetes, which is awesome, but there's no reason to have such an expensive price on a sweater in a thrift shop. I mean, it's called a thrift shop for a reason!
Right? Most shops here are not nearly that insane, this one used to be included, but I guess they've gone more ~upscale and really research their stuff now. You can get real Marc Jacobs purses there if you're lucky.... and have $300 for it. So crazy - you might as well just buy a new one!
I don't live in Manhattan though, I should really start to explore the shops in my borough. It's just easier to wander around Manhattan! Here, I don't have a license, so I have to rely on buses, which means I'm traveling more than anything!
there are some thrift stores here that have 'antique' sections that sell certain items for higher prices that kinda takes the fun out if it though finding something great for a really great price i like going to garage sales in the summer sometimes you can find really good deals at those or other times you drive around all day looking and find absolutely nothing i do not drive either though, so i have to depend on a ride from someone else if i want to do that
The thrift store in the town I used to live in had those items -- but as everything was pretty damn cheap there, the "special" pricing was still a steal. Among other things, I got a vintage silk kimono (not the absolute best quality but good, and nevertheless a vintage silk kimono) there for 10 dollars.
