The "guide" I received postulated that the Deities feed off negative emotion, hence the curse. While I've seen nothing to disprove this theory, it seems short-sighted, to me. The curses which I've experienced clearly function on a deeper level, illuminating the private lives of the citizens. Would-be lovers kept apart. Individuals forced to defend ( Read more... )

I think it's more likely that the deities are sadists. They enjoy toying with us--nothing more.

A valid opinion, but the fact remains: we have no data, either way.

I doubt the deities will let us gather any data they would rather we not have.

I do, as well, but they cannot control everything. And they cannot stop us from thinking.

Is the mountain really a challenge?

You think it isn't?

Not really, no.

It could be any number of things. The chance to climb it, the creatures who may be living there -- all kinds of challenges.

That theory seems short-sighted to me as well. When I asked around the Network earlier this year, no one could tell me where the initial idea came from.

Perhaps the Deities are either afraid of us, or completely disinterested, and the situation has been misjudged entirely. After all, aside from the curses, they seem to have no effect on our daily lives.

Is there proof that the curses come from the Deities at all?

I wouldn't say that they have no effect. After all, they, or something, keeps those of us who can world-travel from doing so.

But I've seen no proof that the curses come from the deities themselves. Sometimes they seem to participate. Last month when we had the fairytale curse, their office turned into a castle.

They? Or the force-field surrounding this place? It seems self-sustaining...

Do you think, instead of trying to generate negative emotion, maybe they're trying to generate any kind of extreme emotion? The negative emotion theory just doesn't ring true to me.

It's also possible they're just trying to continually throw us off, so we don't pay attention to things that are really going on.

Either way, they sure don't seem to mind us discussing it, do they?

No. No response at all.

I wonder if they'd ever start getting cranky if we got close to the real answers.

At this juncture I would say there's no way of telling.
