My current camera is the Fujifilm FinePix S6500fd, which is of the 'big zoom' genre, I think - too big to be a compact camera, and not versatile enough to be an SLR. It's discontinued now, but was the best camera in its price-range when I bought it. It's got great zoom, great macro, manual override for everything and best of all it has a 1/1.7" (0.43 cm²) CCD - most 'big zoom' cameras had a 1/2.5" (0.24 cm²) CCD when last I looked. Since photo quality basically depends on the size and quality of the lens-system and sensor, bigger is almost always better (but usually comes at a higher price ( ... )
