Dear Livejournal: I'm sorry I haven't written you in a while, it's that time of year when I get distracted making very important fake bingo card graphics about baseball.

Books I wish other people I know were reading so we could discuss them:

1. I keep meaning to say, I finished The Raw Shark Texts and I'm now 99% sure that it was The House of ( Read more... )

Well, you're making me want to read all those books, so your book dictatorship maybe can get underway? Hahaha. Not that I read anything anymore. Sigh.

Also I am excited to try this bread!

I actually think the copy of Mission Child that I have is owned buy, uh, YOU, so this could possibly be arranged.

Also, I just watched the episode of Life that ends with Charlie getting shot and JESUS FUCKING CHRIST. I considered going to the gym two times in one day so I could see what happened next.

Ahahahahaha, is it? Oh dear. WELL, THAT'S CONVENIENT ANYWAY.

Oh my godddddddd, THE GETTING SHOT. There was like an 8 week hiatus after that episode and I ALMOST DIED. Also, the whole weird Six Feet Under thing after he gets shot really gets me for some reason, idk. That shooooooow.

(Haha, also, is that the one where he's like, this is Rachel, she's a friend of the family, and Dani's all, O RLY? and he rolls his eyes? Because that was amazingly delightful.)

I read Mission Child, but it was quite a while ago, so my memory is a little fuzzy on it. But I think that doctor's response did not surprise me or feel out of place. Colonialists are nothing if not incredibly smug about their superiority to "backwards" and "superstitious", etc. people who they rule. And for someone who's a highly educated doctor and probably sees himself as liberal and enlightened, he can be both those things and still be a big part of the problematic system. But like I said, my memory of the book is fuzzy.

Yeah, good point, and it's also not like Jan was like, "Oh, thank goodness, these off-world doctors finally understand me the way my people never did!" He was basically like, "Uh, yeah, okay, whatever."

Well, I've just added like all of these to my Goodreads, so consider me your second dictatee. Can I borrow the Indian one when you're done, horrifying anecdotes aside, or should I get it from the library?

Oh goddddd, yeah, that bread just ratcheted even higher up my to do list.

Mmmmmm bread machine. The only problem is that now I'm addicted to the crust that you get with bread on a pizza stone, so I'm not even sure if I could become a bread machine addict, given the opportunity.

Yeah, I had one loaf come out a little bit under-done as well. The good news is that it's very difficult to over-cook it, we accidentally left a loaf in for close to 45 minutes and it was fine. I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
