The Xavier School- New York- Monday evening

Once upon a time a girl took a ride on a bullet into outer space. It's okay, though. It was a ghost bullet. And she kept it ghostly always and nobody ever got hurt, so that probably made it okay. All she had to do was keep it together forever and ever until she died. Everything would be okay.

Scott
Yesterday they'd found Magneto outside the school, levitating above the lawn in total concentration, unable to be moved. They'd worried for a while, and then slowly figured out via Warren and science that he was using his powers to bring the bullet back.

Things had gotten pretty exciting after that.

They'd tried to hide the fact that a giant bullet was coming towards Earth, tried to keep it under the radar. Reed Richards had helped them hide that after scolding them for it, and confirming that the bullet was indeed still phased, and not a global threat. And then it was time to start calling people back.

By now, Magneto had a massive nosebleed and Emma confirmed that he was definitely getting worse. But as many people as possible had gathered here, just waiting.

Clint
Clint hadn't been expecting the phone call from Scott, and as much as he wanted to believe what Scott said, that Kitty was coming back, he wasn't sure if he wanted to let himself believe it. He wanted to believe it, absolutely, but the thought of having his hopes crushed made his chest ache.

Still, Magneto with a nosebleed was a good sign, in a manner of speaking. "Uh, hey," he said, going up to everyone who was gathered. "Any news?"

Scott
"We've been in a holding pattern," Scott told him, coming away from the group a bit to meet Clint. "We don't know a lot. The bullet's still phased, which is a good sign, though we're not getting our hopes up." Except that everyone there had their hopes up. "It's all up to Magneto now, but it shouldn't be too long."

Because Magneto kept getting worse and hopefully he wouldn't die first. Not that he'd say that to Clint.

Clint
"Should I be worried that we're all relying on Magneto to help us?" Clint asked. "I mean, there kind of hasn't been any love lost there, at least as far as Kitty's concerned."

Scott
"From what we can figure out, he's trying to prove himself, show he can be trusted," Scott told him. "He hasn't set off any alarms for Emma and so far I'm not seeing any upside to him tricking us."

Clint
"Especially if he's hurting himself in the process." Clint watched everyone for a few more moments and sighed. "The bullet is really still phased?" Stupid hopes, going up whether he wanted them to or not.

Scott
"It's the only reason every superhero team and government agency isn't on the highest of alerts right now," Scott confirmed with a nod. "I can't promise anything, Clint."

Clint
"I know," Clint said. "I'm still glad you called me. You didn't have to do that." What with this being a pretty mutant-heavy thing and all.

Scott
"You're a part of this," Scott told him. "And she'd want you here."

Also if it'd been Jean, there would have been nothing stopping him from being here, so he understood.

Clint
The difference being Jean came back from the dead all the time, while Kitty... didn't. "I wouldn't be anywhere else," he said. "I'm glad you understand."

Scott
"I think this is something we'd both rather not have in common," Scott said, just a little dryly.

The crowd started murmuring, and Scott turned to see the bullet streaking across the atmosphere, safely not hitting anything. "There she is."

Clint
Clint didn't have any reason to doubt that the bullet was phased, but there was a difference between hearing it, and actually seeing the bullet pass through things as it came towards them. "Holy crap," he murmured. "She really is still in there." Whether or not she was okay was a different story but... this was something, and the ache in Clint's heart came roaring back with no trouble at all.

Magneto
Suddenly the bullet stopped, caught in what looked like a tornado of pink light.

And then there was Magneto, physically straining with the effort of actually stopping the bullet, blood pouring out of his nose in a way that was probably worrying a lot of people.

Clint
Clint... okay, Clint didn't have it in him to not care that Magneto was hurting, even though 99% of him cared more about Kitty and the bullet. But Clint was trusting the psychics and the people way more equipped to handle this than him to... well, handle it and make sure the bullet was all right.

Kitty
After a minute, the bullet sped off.

The pink tornado of light slowly descended back to the ground, safely carrying Kitty, still in her uniform and looking a little freaked out. A few minutes ago she'd been convinced she was finally dying, and now she was here, almost not willing to believe she was really home, just in case her brain was playing tricks on her.

She was set easily on the ground in front of the crowd of people, and the light disappeared, and Magneto promptly fell over.

Clint
There were other people who could help Magneto. Clint stared for a second, like he couldn't believe what he'd seen, and then ran to Kitty's side, kneeling next to her on the ground. "Kitty?!"

Kitty
Still a little shocked- and afraid to believe it- Kitty sat up and glanced around. She saw everyone there (and no one who was currently supposed to be dead, which was important when you'd just expected death), doctors rushing over to Magneto with defibrillators, and then there was Clint. Who she'd really thought she'd never see again.

She opened her mouth to ask if she was really home, and no words came out.

Clint
Clint was pretty speechless too (at least, he assumed that's how Kitty was feeling, after everything she might have been through), and he still couldn't believe she was actually here. Then he tried to grab her hand, for comfort and confirmation that she was real, and his hand went right through hers.

Well, crap.

"Hey sweetie, it's okay," he said, quiet and soothing. "You don't have to keep going. You're out of the bullet, you can be solid."

Kitty
Kitty frowned and tried to unphase, to try and grip his hand, and nothing happened. Her hand went right through him, feeling her heart sink as she recognized what was happening.

Clint
Clint frowned as he watched Kitty, and sighed softly. Why couldn't anything work out easily for them? "Are you trying to stay phased?" he asked.

Kitty
Kitty shook her head.

Sorry, she mouthed. At least he could read lips?

Clint
Yeah, that wasn't supposed to be useful outside of Fandom weirdness times.

"It's okay," Clint said quickly. "The important thing is that you're back. Everything else... we'll figure it out. I love you," he said, because he didn't think he'd have the chance to again.

Kitty
That she could sign. She'd feel better when she could say it.

And seeing them start to wheel Magneto off, she mouthed, Time for doctors.

Not that they could help someone who was bodiless, probably.

Clint
"They'll figure something out," Clint said, only glancing away from Kitty for a second, like she might really disappear if he looked away for too long. "And if they can't, we'll find someone in Fandom who has an idea. Either way, you're going to be okay."

If he said it enough times, then it had to happen.
