Kate Burnt Paper Icon Tutorial, Written using PSP7, but can prolly be made in other programs ^_^

From This:
to This:

Some spoilers for lost (if you have not seen the finale) in examples;

Okies, Start of with your base, mines one of Kate, From Lost;
Crop it down to 100x100

Sharpen twice
get soften tool, set at opacty 10 and hardness 10, size 5 to smooth her skin, avoid the eyes, mouth, nose, hair, etc

Duplicate and set to screen, 100%
Then duplicate the screened layer and set the duplicate to soft light, opacity 50%

The next bit, I picked up from thistutorial by faerie_dance

Create a new layer between the screened layer, and the soft light layer, and flood fill it with #0D1749 and set that to exclusion, 75%
Now, Create another new layer, this time, on top of the exclusion layer, and floodfill it with #FADAC6, and set to soft light, also 75%

Now, Duplicate the bottom layer, and move the duplicate of that over top of everything else, and set to soft light 50% and duplicate it, and then destaturate the bottom of the top two layers, And Merge all

Now, Get your Burnt Paper base, Im using The following one, but the entire set can be found here

Now, Copy and paste your icon over the burnt paper and set to multiply, to get this:

Now, go to the burnt paper layer, and take your magic wand tool, settings: match mode: RGB Value, Tolerance: 36, feather: 0; and select the part that we are wanting to get rid of

Now, fill that with a bright green, i used #00FF00, now, copy that, and paste it onto the top layer, and move it into posistion;

Now, to make the green part invisible, you go (in psp7..)
File > Export > GIF Optimizer and a window will pop up, and you put it on these settings:

and you sohuld now have this:

Other Icons I've Made using these steps (or ones similar)

You welcome to use any of the icons in this tutorial, as long as you credit either honerbright or throw_elijah

If anything makes absolutely no sense, what so ever, just ask ^^
