“Georgia ranks 44th in the nation in voter turnout. We can do better.”
League of Women Voters of Georgia

Alright, I know I’m sawing on an extremely antiquated violin here, but SERIOUSLY, folks: go vote.

You think you’re stuck in a big old sad fucking red state? MOST OF THE STATE DOESN’T EVEN VOTE. If you care at all about the state of affairs, get ( Read more... )

Boltcutters like those of Ted Kaczynski? Or perhaps you prefer the axe of Pentti Linkola? It seems like what you're getting at has it's endpoint in ecoterror, which logically necessitates ecofascism, which ultimately requires a naturalist form of eugenics.

how do you define ecoterror? clearcutting, extirpation of species, factory farming, sea trawlers... you know, real terror? oh, sorry... that's called production and profits. do you mean those activists and groups with a history of active resistance spanning over two decades that has yet to see one living creature harmed? that sounds more like an effective nonviolent campaign... unlike the countless numbers of extremist right wing groups ("hello, Tim McVeigh, glad to see you aren't the #1 threat to national security, let's go beat up the faggot eating tofu over there...") who have killed, raped, assaulted, and brought terror to thousands if not millions of people across this country.

thanks to attitudes like this, i won't see a vibrant, loving individual who i have shared many great experiences with for upwards of 6 years for running websites advocating the closing of a business because that is considered terrorism.

while FC's "Industrial Society and its Future" has many points to be considered, and its tactic of actually making ( ... )

One of the only non-metaphorical words you used previously in this thread was "militant," and that is a word with a relatively plain meaning. Though admittedly employing sarcasm, a crude move for which I apologize, I was asking you a real question which you have failed to answer. I'm not trying to be confrontational so much as I am simply trying to understand what, if not violent coercion, you mean by employing terms such as "militant," "boltcutters," and "sticks/pinatas." I don't think that advocating the dissolution of inherently inhumane capitalist frameworks on a website, as you've described that your friend did, is violence or terrorism. I do think that terrorizing through violence (whether humans are killed or not) is violence and terrorism. Don't use violent words if you don't mean to imply that you advocate violence.

The thing is, until someone actively brings about a different world, this is what we have to work with. Refusing to work does not seem particularly progressive to me, and I do not belive that working within the current system precludes also working toward a different or better one.

This is not to accuse you of refusing to work toward a better world, because nothing could be further from the truth. I just think that a lot of intelligent people our age become so fed up that they are moved to apathy and inaction.

Finally, I am sadly only equipped with some jewelry pliers right now. This is literal, although the metaphorical significance of it is not lost on me.

its a pretty common misconception that those of us who reject the current social model are "moved to apathy and inaction," which just isn't true.

a good example are the hundreds if not thousands of people currently active in the militant wing of the animal liberation movement, and...umm, "their" (because i would NEVER do anything illegal! i swear!)... rejection and subsequent movement beyond accepted means has saved the lives of countless animals, while animal "rights" groups like PETA use half-naked images of wimmin to try and convince KFC to give chickens "a little more room in their cages"... a sad parallel to the quote above.

with this going down, i cannot justify to myself participation in an overblown game of musical chairs, where all the players are subservient to a culture of rape, genocide, and environmental desecration and the only thing i get to choose is the music and the way the chair looks. i'd rather get a large stick and see which one of those fuckers bursts like a pinata (how do i do an accent over the n?!)...

As I said earlier, I have never thought you apathetic or inactive. I'm refering more to the popular liberal who spouts mainstream ideas and then doesn't even bother to support them.

I don't think busting people open with sticks is a good idea, Joey. It's really not very nice.

i got carried away with all my metaphors. I remember when Mrs. Sauls (was that the AP English teacher's name @ WBHS? i forget now!) told me that.

Yeah, Mrs. Sauls was our honors english teacher in ninth grade. Teehee, remember Fundamentalist Biology with Mrs. Saxon? I'll never forget the peculiar shade of red-purple that Grant Chapman blushed when she started talking about her nipples squirting in the grocery store...

Good ol' WBHS, huh?

Note: The word "nipples" appears twice in the comments section of a post ostensibly about voting. Badass!
