Since school began on August 18, three students at my school have been shot in the block surrounding our school.  While none of the shots have been fatal to my students, an 18-year old girl from a nearby magnet school died as a result of the most recent shooting on Sunday. Kids in general get majorly fucked by this country, but it's especially brutal and inhuman and intentional for poor kids. I think that many people who really are capable of caring feel that it's a problem too big to solve. Which, I mean, come the fuck on

pps: i tried to visit NOLA this summer but the Federal Bureau of Investigations found it absolutely necessary to raid my friends' house, subpoena another friend to testify before a grand jury, and finally to jail yet another friend. that left me with very little to do other than help them. yay for freedom, right?
