Captivated (Eight)
Eight
Of all the places Toma could want to visit for a breather from the dull clan headquarters he chose a park.
A freaking park, it was full of people, kids and their parents, families. Everyone looked so innocent and happy it was nearly impossible picking out those whose intentions might be bad.
Jun sighed as he sat on the bench alone. Why did he feel so much like a mother?
“Which one’s yours?” The kind lady beside him asked.
Jun pointed in front towards a big tree where Toma was jumping towards the branches to catch a butterfly, Ryo and Yamapi in tow. Those two were supposed to be there as extra precaution, not damn playmates.
“Those.” He sighed and the woman nodded curiously, “Oh mine’s there.” She pointed towards a five year old in a light yellow t-shirt crouched over the sandbox, “We should get our kids to play together sometimes.” She chirped happily.
Jun couldn’t help but look at the lady incredulously. She did look over fifty, was she really sane enough to look over kids? Maybe she just sucks really bad at sarcasm.
“Oh look our kids are playing together!” and Jun looked up to where the woman was now pointing to Toma’s tree. Just as she had pointed out the yellow shirted kid was grappling at the tree in Toma’s arms. While the sheer cuteness of the sight annoyed him (or more like the sappy feelings it invoked in him annoyed him) he was alarmed at the man standing right beside them seemingly talking to Ryo.
He rushed up to them worried. If Ryo and Yamapi could protect Toma then the Shachou would have appointed them instead of him after all.
Yamapi sensing Jun’s concern introduced him to the tanned young man wearing a blue shirt and khaki shorts, “Hey Jun, that’s Ohno Satoshi and that’s his little brother Ohno Yamada.”
Jun nodded at them and managed a polite smile. Just his name wasn’t going to make him any less suspicious of the man.
So he stood by them the whole time that they played and chatted, feeling like a grandpa but refusing to join in none the less.
