Note: Written For This:
a kiss, and all was said. “It sucks.”
“No, you do.”
Toma narrowed his eyes at Nino, really why was he here? When he called MatsuJun for a feel good dinner treat and the latter had said, “I’m busy I’ll send someone over,” Toma in his life had never thought it’d be Nino.
Not only is he the one giving himself the feel good treat, he’s giving Nino one too, who’s picking at his meat half heartedly and rebuking him with the full vigour of his enthusiasm.
When you get sucky reviews for your very first movie and need to feel good, Yamapi advised to get hopelessly drunk. But nooooo, Toma needed consolation and a pat on the back and maybe someone to wipe his tears but that someone sure as hell isn’t Nino, so why are they together now?
Toma could think and muse and contemplate and stay lost in his reverie but his steak would get cold and that sizzling steak is the only bright thing about this painful evening.
Toma asked Nino what he did when he got a bad review. Nino shrugged and replied that he never got any.
Toma pouted as he took a bite and kept on pouting all throughout chewing. Nino took one look at him and sighed.
“Accept it and move on.”
Toma only pouted harder.
“It won’t work on me.”
This time a glare came to accompany the intense puckering of lips.
Nino changed the subject and the rest of the night was spent avoiding less than pleasant reviews and the sinking feeling of being a failure.
Nino walks him home, he doesn’t understand why. One glass of wine hardly brands him as a walking hazard but in the end he’s glad Nino does, Nino’s short and walks funny, makes Toma feel good about himself especially since he can circle his hands around his shoulder. Nino grunts to acknowledge the little skinship but doesn’t do anything to change it.
They’re at Toma’s door and Toma is sad and it shows on his face and Nino’s muttering under his breathe trying to seem annoyed. He closes his eyes and takes a deep breath. The sound cuts through a thick silence and Toma has to stop unlocking the door to face the source.
“I lied.” Nino admits.
“About what?” Toma asks genuinely confused. Truthfully, Nino was the most compulsive liar he’s ever seen, he can’t be expected to decipher when Nino has lied or not.
Suddenly there are stubby fingers curling into his hair and he’s being pulled down and he catches a flash of the sharp contours of Nino’s face before slight lips press up against his and Nino’s closed eyes and his dark lashes are the only things he can see.
But he can feel a lot more, Nino’s fingers flexing around his hair before going for another tight grip, the tilt of Nino’s head and his own for a deeper kiss, Nino’s nose blunt against his cheek and finally his tongue warm and oddly wet against his own.
Nino’s tongue retracts and his lips follow but Toma’s still bent over awkwardly and looking into Nino’s eyes.
“Oh-chan did that when I got my first bad review.”
Toma nods for a lack of anything better to do. Nino’s stubby fingers are still tangled up in his hair, lightly scratching his scalp.
“I’m scared that all my hard work over all these years would go into the drain because of this.”
This time Nino nods and brings his face closer so that Toma thinks he’s going to kiss him again. Nino only presses their foreheads together.
“Don’t worry, it won’t”
Toma loops his arms around Nino’s shoulder and nods again before finally falling forward letting Nino catch him in his arms.
Nino’s warm again and he’s comfortable again and he pulls him just that much closer.
“You bought Mario Kart, right?”
The question startles him and he retracts. He can’t help feeling a little incredulous but he nods because the advertisement had Nino AND Jun, how could he not buy it?
Nino grins, “Great. I’m staying over the night.” And he snatches Toma’s key from his right hand, unlocks the door and bounds in happily.
After a minute of stupor, Toma follows.
