Mami is very mature for her age. She speaks formally, showing that she is well-manned and polite. In contrast to Kyouko, she rarely loses her temper and she is still able to speak in a calm and collected manner even when telling Homura she won't hesitate to kill her if ever they would met again. Mami could have ignored saving Sayaka and Madoka in the Witch's Maze, just so that she could kill the witch and acquire a Grief Seed; but she chooses to save the girls first. This shows Mami's noble and selfless nature, that Mami goes out of her way to save people who are in trouble. The older girl also takes it upon herself to mentor Madoka and Sayaka in the ways of the Puella Magi, to show them the rewards and the risks they have to take after they made a contract with Kyubey.
However this is all a front. On the inside, Mami is actually bitter from all the fighting she has been doing. She couldn't really enjoy her adolescence to the fullest because all of her time is dedicated to her duty as a Puella Magi. She would get hurt from the witch hunts, she couldn't kick back and just have fun nor could even find a boyfriend. A Puella Magi's existence is a lonely one and Mami has been bearing the burden for quite sometime now. Her spirits lift up when Madoka told her that she is willing to fight along side Mami so that she won't be along any longer.

It was shown that Mami used her wish to save herself when she and her parents got into a car accident. She says that she doesn't regret making her wish (and that her only regret was that she didn't have to opportunity to choose for herself) but she does feel guilty that she lived and her parents were left to die. It's this guilt that makes Mami push herself when she fights witches. She wasn't able to save her parents so she puts all her energy and effort to save others. Mami's wish was to live. She is literally fighting for her life.
Mami is the type of person who would go to extremes with her righteousness. In another timeline, she doesn't hesitate to kill off her younger charges and eventually herself to prevent them into changing into witches. She had good intentions but Mami took it way too far. Madoka killed her before Mami could lay a hand on Homura.
When Mami isn't putting her life on the line on a daily basis, she is still normal teenage girl deep down (emotional baggage not withstanding). She is rather fond of sweets and tea as seen in the episode where she invites Sayaka and Madoka in her apartment. She even summons a cup of tea to take a sip after finishing off a witch. Mami loves her tea. Which makes it ironic that she died in a Witch's Maze that's made of cake and that the Grief Seed shattered her tea cup.
[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :
Skills - Mami is a veteran Puella Magi and she is an extremely powerful one too. Kyubey has remarked that not only Mami has experience but she has the talent for magic as well. She fights in a focused and disciplined manner, choosing her shots carefully and reacting quickly whenever she's in danger.
As a Puella Magi, Mami has these abilities:
Her Soul Gem can track down witches. It also serves as her transformation trinket.
Her body is more resistant to pain and injuries
Can summon an infinite amount of muskets out of thin air, each with a single bullet in them
"Tiro Finale" ("Final Shot" in Italian), the big ass matchlock Mami summons to finish off a witch
She can enchant ordinary objects (e.g. Sayaka's bat) in order to protect those who wield it
The ribbons Mami uses have different propeties. The one around her neck can cut through objects. The ones she summons herself can bind together in order to create a bridge or a safety net for a falling person, and they can bind a person. Only she can release them
She has healing magic as well
Can also create barriers. She uses this to protect Sayaka and Madoka on their witch hunts
The only con of this is that all of Mami's abilities rely on her Soul Gem. You crush the Soul Gem, Mami dies instantly. Even though Mami is a skilled fighter, her emotions can get the best of her, making her more reckless in battle. This eventually led to her own demise.
Personality - Mami puts up a front of being cool and strong, however, she is actually emotionally frail. Mami confided in Madoka she had nobody to turn whenever she's feeling afraid or if she's having a hard time. All she could do was cry by herself. Mami is also blissfully ignorant of the true nature of a Puella Magi (which will be elaborated bellow). Knowing the truth will make her snap because her entire world view would be shattered.
[ Other Important Facts ] :
Mami has no knowledge about the true nature of a Puella Magi. As the series went on, it was revealed that Kyubey is an Incubator, an alien race using the turbulent emotions of young girls as a way to violate entropy. In order to do that, they must find girls who are willing to become Puella Magi and to fight witches.
But what does that entail exactly?
1) The girls are technically now dead. Their Soul Gem literally contains a Puella Magi's soul and their bodies need to be within 100 meters of it or they will die for real. The only way to kill Mami is to shatter her Soul Gem.
2) A witch is actually a fully matured Puella Magi. Using a witch's Grief Seed to cleanse a Soul Gem could only prolong the transformation.

She took it into her hand, tinkering with it before it clicks on suddenly.]

[The video reveals a girl wearing a soaked school uniform. She blinks for a moment before the confused look she had morphs into a more serene expression. She doesn't look all that phased that her clothes are soaking wet or that she's in a completely different world. Nope, Mami was all smiles. The tone of her voice was rather cheerful as well. Just one. When a magical girl uses her Soul Gem, it dims. The darker it gets, the closer that magical girl turns into a witch. The only way for a Soul Gem to be cleansed is that she uses a Grief Seed of a witch. I don't want Mami to turn into a witch while she's in Vatheon. Will the process of the Soul Gem dimming slow down or it just freezes?
