I don't know. Why do the Malnosso do any of the things they do? They're probably just, um - what was that word Marta used? - oh, right... they're probably just sadists who enjoy making us miserable.

Maybe we'll never know why... it's hard to believe some people want to do this to others - to make them hurt more even while they're already in pain...

It would appear that this is yet another experiment. I suppose they are making up for the lack of recent ones by choosing something that will cause the most distress to the people here.
