So, I was in my first earthquake today!  It apparently was magnitude 5.6, although it was centered about 30 miles away.  I was down in my subbasement lab working, and suddenly the room starts shaking, and I'm totally like wtf!?  It wasn't very intense, and nothing fell, but it lasted a couple seconds and was pretty crazy.  While after the fact I'm ( Read more... )

5.6? You baby. You call yourself a Californian? More like a... wuss...ifornian. The news said there wasn't one single injury in, like, the whole state. Which is better than most days.
Also, next time you should find a way to bottle some earthquake and send it home so we can all have some.

Just you wait, that big one is due in a few years here, and when it happens, we'll have enough earthquake to feast for weeks. I can probably store it's energy in some harmonic oscillator spring - they make springs with gigajoule energy storage capacity, right? Btw, theories on earthquake flavor? I'm going with quartzy, with just a hint of pumpous.
