My Jaw Dropped

So, guess what?  Ray Harryhausen has a facebook account!  For some reason I find this the most awesome revelation I've had in quite some time.  I'd friend him except he's 88 and only has one other friend, so it might be kinda weird.  Oh, and if you're like, who's Ray Harryhausen, he's the man responsible for the greatest movie monsters and fights ( Read more... )

that was impressive. i was wondering how he got the actors to work smoothly with the stop-motion or if he somehow put the skeletons in later.

it's a composite shot of the actors and the skeletons. the skeletons are actually miniatures that he moved frame by frame over a four month period to create the footage. the footage of the actors was shot first, much of it over a blue screen, and he moved the skeletons using the actors' footage and the fight choreography as a reference.

Wow that's great work. Much better than I was expecting from stop-animation miniatures!

Yeah, he's got so many amazing sequences. I can show you more some time if you're interested. It's when I see stuff like this that I get annoyed at CGI. While CGI might be more detailed, it still simply doesn't look as "real" as miniatures.
