The re-whatever of Star Trek has a few things going for, but many marks against it. It is those marks that I would like to bring to your attention.

So did anyone else notice that the Enterprise's set speed limit was warp 4 (basically 1024 times the speed of light) and at that speed they could reach the Alpha Centauri system (our nearest neighbor) from Earth orbit in about 30 hours if they went at maximum speed. Not too shabby.

So, why does the Enterprise make it from Earth orbit to VULCAN in... 4 minutes? What speed is that? Speed of plot?

Good catch, Jacko. The time spent in Warp to Vulcan would've been a great space to throw in some early introspection of the characters.

I thought the characterization of Spock was shallow. Supremely logical in every way until you make fun of his mom, then he loses his shit completely. Spock is supposed to have an internal struggle between logic and emotion. Also, how did those Vulcan kids go to him for 35 days and not think to ditch on his mom? Everyone knows when you want to trash talk someone you start with their mom and go from there.
