A Stitch in Time ...
I've started playing around with a new photo editing technique... stitched panoramas... and we had a workshop this past weekend at one of the camera clubs I belong to.
Here are a couple of the images that resulted from my efforts:

I am not sure that I can even imagine how one does this 'stitching' of photos ...

The tricky part for the photographer is the technique for shooting the images in a way that the photomerge tool will handle with minimal distortion.
You have to do mostly manual settings, as the exposure would change as you pan across the subject to take the individual images, and make sure to include enough overlap so that the software will be able line them up properly.
I found the trickiest part to be getting the tripod dead level so you're panning on a level plane. Especially when you're shooting vertical rather than horizontal

It has a "Photomerge" function and does a great job of blending the overlaps, although I did have to do a little edge tweaking in a few spots on the cactus one before I merged the layers to take care of some almost un-noticable (except to a nit-picker like me!) edge glitches.
One of these nights, I'm going to have to head down to the harbor and get a nice panorama of the city skyline at sunset using this technique.

Now all I have to do is smuggle in a tripod and get everyone in the stands to sit still while I shoot the panorama sequence! :D
Would make one hell of a shot though!
