Conclusion: Many of the riveted maile i see being sold is at 8 - 9.5mm Diameter. This is at best 2 - 3 mm off from this excavation. 7-10th century. But I guess that is not too bad as it 2mm is not that large, though as a complete set of armour it would be mildly noticeable. I wonder if maile got smaller as time went by?
