Impressive goals. But you likely will make them look easy..capybyraAugust 29 2009, 06:13:25 UTC
Extra Credits exercise.. See about thhis teacher working with you on "wood fired kilns" of a pre-industrial tech level.. Means? The tech can be as "design" elaborate as practical but the tools and materials might be capped at OhSay- to be what Sargon The Great's artisans etc had..
Being able to dig up native clay, form a Kiln shellfire it using itself, thence fire more objects IN that handbuilt Kiln is a kick..Yeah, I admit it- we did horridly crude versions of the stunt when I was in Cub Scouts.. And hadn't learned yet about blocking- air bubble explosions in a thinnish wood Kiln are _exciting_ if you are taking a turn at the bellows...

You know, we actually had a discussion about starting from absolute zero to produce art. I would be terribly interested in creating my own kiln (so that I don't have to spend THOUSANDS on an electric or gas one) and digging up my own clay.
I was thinking about when I used to live in Amarillo, Tx and we played around in the dirt, and would often reach a bed of beautiful red clay. I should go back there and see if I can't use that clay now.
hope these help-- My Grandson has arrived and I'm helping him build a Crystal Radio form scavenged parts... so haveta cut this short.. Good luck on the Semester..
