that reminds me of a book i read by kurt vonnegut (my favorite writer), the title is player piano, and its about how everything is produced by machines. the machines are taxed and america is actaually quite communist. everyone gets enough. but there are no jobs left. so the goverment starts a corps for them and they go around fixing the potholes and whatnot. the only people who get jobs are people with multiple phds, and those are selected by machines based on some categories. its really a good book, you should all read it.
