I've identified a habit in my gaming. I tend to play video games for the system over the story. Many of my friends keep telling me how I am missing out. It might be true ( Read more... )

My obsession with Heavenly Sword this weekend was exactly the opposite; I wanted to get the conclusion of the story, the gameplay was just "in the way".

I was like that for Jade Empire. Nothing else yet.

Mass Effect will be here Monday. Then I can be cool like you, but cheaper and behind the times. So I guess that is less cool and more wannabe... Hmmm.

I built a crossbow today. (I couldn't sleep so I hit Lowe's at opening.)I just need to find the bow part. Everything else works.

I remember the Story for Starcraft being pretty good. Though its been a long time since I've played.

4th edition for DnD is coming out soon. Are you excited?

Actually I'm pretty indifferent to it. My projects have lapped my gaming. I feel pretty good too.

D&D feels more like Magic the Gathering to me now. I don't want to pour money into it just to keep up with the consumerism of it. I long for the days of playing with hand-me-down books and making up characters that were less than 50% gear.

I'm pessimistic about the WoTC, I guess.

I understand about the whole consumerism aspect. Collecting tons of game books gets really expensive and irritating. It also seems like WoTC is getting more expensive.

On a positive note, of the things that I have read, DnD is trying to get away from the Christmas Tree PC and make the PC's much less dependent on gear.

I got a good deal on the core set, and when they come, I'd really like to play a starting level game, ya know, from 1st level on up.

Its good to hear that you are doing well though. I've been out of the loop for a while. We should get together or something.
