savoir - to know something
connaitre - to know a place
gathered from my French dictionary... after research i'm assuming either there's another word for knowing SOMEONE, or connaitre can be used in that sense as well.
so. it's like this, according to ralph schoolcraft, the self-fulfilling prophesy of a professor:
you are right about that someoneness and connaitre and everything else you said, mostly, sort of. way to be awesome! spanish has the same bit of fun with ser and... another verb. yeah.

however, i do know that the word "savvy" comes from the French word "savoir", which also means "to know".
French always provides good insight into daily life !
