Moonlight Axolotl Impressions

Ampion was so cute yesterday evening - here are a few moonlight-shots featuring her as my little model:

i know - their happy smile and docile expression is just so heartwarming <3

they are the perfect pets to take pictures of because they always sit still most of the time... on the other hand all videos i make with them tend to be rather boring XD

yeees - its quite practical, because they are mostly active at night, so i can easily observe them in their tank. ;3 they mostly stroll around or hang out in the plants ambushing the little fish XD

and you are right - watching them is totally relaxing, but also very often entertaining because they tend to be a little clumsy *lol*

they need quite some space though, 80x40 cm footprint is the minimum dimensions for 2 full grown axolotls (as they can easily grow bigger than 30cm). my tank is 100x50 so they have plenty of space ^^

i know many people who have cats and keep axolotl with no problems - i would suggest putting a frame with some mesh insert on top of the tank to make sure nothing happens. i bet your cat would LOVE watching them ^^

i have seen pictures of an axolotl that was attacked by a cat only once - still: quite nasty! it survived and healed all its wounds fortunately.
