Here I am to talk about a tv show for a change! I went ahead and discovered season 1 of Sherlock, the British tv show that has been very popular lately.
And I have to say I loved it! For those of you who do not know the show, it is the story of Sherlock Holmes but placed nowadays in modern times. Sherlock is and remains the character of the book in its brilliance, arrogance and social indifference. The fun of the story writing - which I find refreshing - is that they do not take the books and adapt them, they take bits and pieces of lots of books, then bring them together to write a whole new story. So there are lots of things in there that readers of the original work would recognize, yet they would still be surprised.
I don't want to compare the show to the movies because they are very different from the start. The cast - which is brilliant - has also chosen to play the characters very differently. But I love the interaction and banter between Sherlock and Watson, great fun there, the lines are hilarious, the directing of the episodes entertaining, all is done to keep you intrigued and right in the plot.
My only negative point: being a UK tv show, the seasons are way too short with way too little episodes (season 1 had only 3)! Of course I do prevail quality above quantity, and one can tell that they are putting a lot of care in this show. But when each episode is so good, it is hard to accept there are not more out there to watch!
Now I need to get season 2!
