Movie #15 - Rise of the Planet of the Apes

Jul 25, 2012 23:20

I have not seen all of the Planet of the Apes films (I know I know, how can I call myself a movie freak and not have seen them, right?), but thought I could give it a try and see this one. Plus, James Franco, need I say more?

Well... I seriously had higher expectations. Don't get me wrong, the special effects are fantastic, and the apes are just so extremely well done, very realistic and human in their facial expressions. The story in itself is good and makes absolute sense, with a very clear message on humanity (to be expected though).

The main problem is that all the action takes place in the last half hour of the movie. The rest of the time is spent waiting for something to actually happen. The film is unequal in its content, action, emotion and messaging. Had they taken the same elements and shuffled them in a different way, maybe this film would have been something better and well worth watching. As it is, I would recommend it for a night during which you can flip through channels at the boring moments. Trust me, you'll still get the essence of the movie.
