This is a bit of a difficult one. You know how a film is not necessary bad, but just does not meet your expectations, so you end up being pretty disappointed? That's what happened here.
Puss in boots is a great character, and I really love him in Shrek. I guess that's what pushed them to give him his own movie. I also loved him in the short film on the Puss in Boots dvd. But the movie itself missed the mark for me.
Everyone loves Puss in Boots because he is fun. In this movie, he was not fun. The movie itself was not fun. It was a traditional adventure movie, with a couple of funny moments here and there. And that was the problem for me.
In itself, it is a good adventure movie, cute, very well done technically, aesthetic, everything seems right. It's just not what I wanted to see when I watched this.
So I admit I do not recommend it. I think it missed the mark for people who know Puss in Boots from Shrek, and might be a bit odd for people who are actually not familiar with the character already.
Shame, big big shame.
I do give it a brownie point for kitten version of Puss in Boots. CUTE CUTE CUTE. I melted right there, that was my biggest highlight of the whole movie :)
