I've never had a midlands accent and i've lived here the best part of 19 years.

Then that's the way you speak, and it's a good way to speak.
I just get disappointed when people consciously change their accent when speaking to other people. It just seems a bit unnecessary.

It does seems somewhat odd to me. I've come to terms with my voice, even though it's a truly mangled one.
