Tia stopped as she walked into the room, letting the post she was holding drop with a slap onto the table at her side. "Damnit." The plant had died, bloody well died while she'd been out

"Does this call for a funeral?" Daniel tried his best to hide the amused smile as he looked at the dead plant, though he didn't do a very good job of it. He'd let himself into Tia's flat without announcement, hoping to surprise her instead. Now he was leaning against the door frame, his arms crossed against his chest casually as the smile finally broke free across his lips. It wasn't that he was amused at the dead plant, how devastating! No. He was more amused by Tia's reaction. It was just so... cute, the way she cursed like that

Tia spun back around at the unexpected sound of an always welcome voice and broke into a smile. "Daniel!" Never mind the teasing, she hardly paid attention to the words because her friend was here! Tia rushed over and threw her arms around his neck in a hug as he straightened. Good thing she wasn't one hundred percent paying attention too, because she just might have offered to fix his lack of houseplant problem if she'd caught that. She was glad he was here. For the moment at least, it took her mind off the disappointment of having killed a sickly plant.
She drew back in time to catch the smirk and continued smiling, though she smacked him lightly with the back of a hand. "No we're not having a funeral for it. It's not even mine. It's a client's." As for whether or not it had a name, "They didn't say."
Ah, damn. He didn't scare her, did he? Not that he was intentionally trying to. No, that wasn't exactly the reason he'd come over without giving her warning. That wasn't why he sneaked in so quietly... it was just that, if he had caught her unaware and if she had jumped or let out a scream or something... well, it would have been a bit priceless and he'd have reason to laugh and tease her mercilessly.
No such luck, though. Daniel had to hand it to her for remaining so cool. Now that he thought about it, maybe he'd done this sort of thing too often, maybe she was just immune and he couldn't ever scare her with his sudden appearance? Hmm. He'd have to find new ways. He was an Auror, after all, being sneaky was his job!
"Hey honey," He said softly in her ear as he squeezed her against his chest as they hugged. It was good to see her again, he was glad he'd been released from his duty so early. Daniel playfully winced as she hit him, pretending as if it actually hurt, "Ow! I was merely trying to sympathize!"

Tia wouldn't go so far as to say that he hadn't startled her. Daniel had managed that but his voice was so perfectly familiar that she'd recognized it straight off. Who could be scared by that voice? Not Tia, certainly. She couldn't imagine the sudden appearance of Daniel being anything BUT good. And yes, she was probably used enough to the idea of him dropping in without an invitation to take it in stride. Now if he'd grabbed her or been right behind her when he'd said it, she probably would have jumped. Maybe made one of those embarrassing squeals. As it was, she was spared from having another reason to hit him. She couldn't make it too easy on him after all now could she? Had to work harder than that to unsettle her after all these years
