When I first read this post, I thought you said the story was about fairies. So, I was confused during the reading of the story: Where are the fairies? When are the fairies going to appear? Are they going to turn into fairies? This seems like the wrong sort of story to incorporate fairies into. Hmm, no fairies.

Oh, fairNESS. Well, that makes much more sense. Good story.

Aha! I read that story (when I was in junior high, I expect.) I wouldn't have had a clue who wrote it.
