My PoTC 4 thoughts (spoilers)
So, I finally saw PoTC 4 at the local cheapie theater. I was late because I thought they'd show 1/2 hr of ads first. Turned out I was wrong about that! But anyhoo... Beyond the cut are my scintillating thoughts...
I found it entertaining, good escapism, beautiful sets, and Jack not acting so over the top ridiculous as he did in much of PoTC 3.
I have a few gripes though.
I had overcome my Sparrabeth prejudice enough to hope to see some Jack Sparrow nookie, snogging, etc. It didn't happen. I did enjoy the mock-fanfic style writing at the end but I did want to see a real kiss so I could experience some vicarious Jack Sparrow smoochies. I wonder why they didn't go that way? To appease us Sparrabethers? Do we really have THAT much power?
I will say it here and say it now, I hate Barbossa. I don't forgive him for throwing Elizabeth to the pirates to be gang raped in P1. He's a gang rapist by proxy and a murderer and is Jack's enemy, and I hate him. I wanted Blackbeard to kill him. I have no emotional investment against Blackbeard so I couldn't really go "Yay!" when he was destroyed.
Angelica should have told her father to go eff himself. I was disappointed that she didn't.
I'm very glad Jack didn't drink from the Fountain and is no longer running away from the boogeyman. I'm also glad his identity is no longer so strongly tied to the Pearl. Still, seeing Barbossa get the Pearl made me grit my teeth. Did I mention I hate him? Why can't Rush get tired of PoTC movies and refuse to keep doing them? Then there would be no more Barbossa.
