That's the attitude I've learned is best since coming to college, as I wasn't really exposed to much in the way of a diverse population before then. I can get behind this 100%. "Be what you want, just don't spend every second cramming it up my nose," you know?

I once wrote a rant basically saying "stop trumpeting being (insert minority of whatever type here) around as some huge point of pride because it is not an accomplishment, it's simply part of who you are; be proud of your achievements" but it has, I fear, been lost in the mists of time and mire of EZBoard.

Part of the problem is too many people that are so insistant on trumpeting on how they are not $MINORITY$ or how they hate $MINORITY$ that you have to bring it up just to shock them into shutting up (and unfortunatly, it tends to be way too temporary of a condition).

This is also true. It's kind of a vicious cycle. If people would just shut up about what (group) does, then (group) wouldn't wave it around, triggering people to bitch, triggering waving, and on and on and on until you want to give them all a time out or something until they can just get back to their lives instead of doing the "I condemn you/LOOK AT ME" dance.
