I've spent the good past of the last month considering dropping out of my course, for the second time. I did half a year of an English degree, quit, and so far I've done a year and a half of a psychology degree. I feel so trapped, I don't really know why I'm doing this. I really can motivate myself to do any work, and like you said happened to you, I find that things snowball. I'll miss one class and then not want to go to the next one and have to explain why I was absent the week before, so I'll just miss weeks and weeks to save myself the hassle! I guess I don't have a clue what I would do if I would drop out, being trapped and unhappy here for a year and a half more is less scary than having to go out into the big wide world and get a proper job. For now I'm just safe here, going along half asleep all the time, until I figure out what to do

Iain, I love you! I know that you will do well in the future. Like everyone else said, you don't have to have college. You just need to believe in yourself. Iain, I would be there to talk to you anytime you ever needed it. I know I'm far away and we don't talk much anymore, but I think you're awesome and I would do anything for you. We should hang out over the break and seriously, you can call me anytime if you need anything.
maybe you're just a vagabond and nothing can hold you down.
i don't know you that well anymore iain, but i think that if you consider college something important in life (which i think you do, because apparently not doing well at school bothers you) then whether college is for you or not, i don't think you will be happy if you don't finish it. either you need to get rid of the idea that you need higher education, or you need to buck up and try to finish college (and i guess in-state since money is an issue). whether that takes a bazillion more years shouldn't matter, hell take a break every other semester, but don't just sit around and let this thing loom over your head. basically you need to figure out who's standards you're living against - your parents, the society's, your own - and go from there. right now you're just pressuring yourself to death. and i love julie but if she isn't going to be there for you for mental support then she ain't doin her job and you need to tell her that. good luck iain.
