The moment the girls vanished, Shito let the smile drop and sighed irritatedly, digging his chopsticks into his food as if he were stabbing the girls with knives.
"Idiots," he growled softly. "We're not zoo animals."
"Contagious zoo animals, at that," Chika snorted. "Man, as glad as I am to be out of the hospital, I didn't realize how much of a pain being back at school would be."
He rolled his eyes at the fluttering of the girls. It wasn't the first time he'd seen the effect of Shito's model-perfect looks and polite manners on strangers, he'd had it demonstrated plenty of times in the hospital. But having seen the truth behind Shito's empty smile during the long, painful days of recovery, Chika found it rather hilarious that people thought of his new friend as the 'nice one'.
"I wish they hadn't published our picture in the newspaper," Shito muttered, stabbing a piece of broccoli and then bringing it to his lips.
He definitely wasn't the nice one. He had manners, was raised to be polite, but there was nothing behind it. Only the months of physiotherapy and recovery that he'd shared with Chika had allowed them to forge a real friendship.
"I still think we oughta go let that paper know just how unhappy we are about it," Chika said idly. "We could skip the afternoon's classes to go over there, kill two birds with one stone."
He'd never had much use for school, other than as something to do with his days and an opportunity to hang out with his friends. Only his old friends had all been awkward and distant since the accident, and now all he had was Shito. And they'd probably wind up hanging out together whether they were at school or not.

Vanessa didn't like giggling idiots anymore than they did, but there really wasn't much she could do short of beating them up, which while she could do it, really wasn't anything she'd really want to do. So instead she walked to their table and set her tray down across from them, making enough of a clattering sound to make a point and sat down.
Not at all, that's what it's here for!tiedbydestinyDecember 16 2009, 04:20:18 UTC
Finally, someone with the guts to actually talk to them and not just whisper about them! Chika grinned at her. "Yup. You'd think we were celebs or something."
[If you want we can put an order to this? Whatever works for you.]vanessessaryDecember 16 2009, 04:25:32 UTC
She rolled her eyes as she opened her milk carton. "They're just idiots who can't tell the difference between an action scene in a movie and a real accident."
Shito's face relaxed into a smile again at the girl's entrance, though there was something wary about his eyes. "It's silly. You get into a little bus accident and all of a sudden it's like we've got the plague."
Azula was on her way to her usual table (the back corner of the room; she always either sat alone or with Ty Lee) when she spotted the two boys. Everyone knew who they were, even if they hadn't before-- it wasn't every day that DDD High School had deadly bus accidents.
She regarded them coolly as she walked by-- and then decided to stop. "Will the scars last?"
She rolled her eyes right back. "Hilarious. Really." They probably thought that they were intimidating her or something. She'd have to clear that up. Breaking her usual routine, Azula pulled up a chair and set her tray down on the table right next to theirs.
Shito glanced up at Deitrich, his eyes narrowing faintly. There was a bit of a rivalry between them - mostly hyped by the school itself - as Shito the junior vied for the spot as prettiest boy in school.
"We'd just as soon avoid that kind of popularity."
"Is that right? Oh-- of course. No one wants to be surrounded.. do that?" Dietrich could relate. He certainly didn't like it - but it was amusing to him all the same. So many people that would blindly follow. He just laughed and leaned in toward the junior.
"I do hate to break it to you but there isn't much you could really do. You might as well be a good boy and accept the fact you're so likable."
"I'm not likeable," Shito said, then gave Deitrich his most fake smile. "But I do love that we're seen as freaks by the whole school after we get back from gruelling and painful physiotherapy."
So, yes, Kasumi can't help but glance between them and her food, frowning. It's not that they are a spectical- she's simply concerned. How often does a terrible accident wound one's classmates? They were released from the hospital, so of course they must be healing...
Chika saw his friend roll his eyes and followed the other boy's gaze, just in time to see Kasumi looking away with that guilty expression that meant she'd been staring a moment before. He snorted and shrugged. If she wanted to talk, she could say something. He certainly wasn't going to put himself out to start the conversation.

The smooth voice of a certain senior flowed behind the two boys, and the smile the boy wore was almost felt by no doubt anyone that heard his voice.
"And still ever popular." it was a sweet subtle mocking.
