I fell in love with Ziva from the moment she appeared in NCIS. Much as I loved Kate as a character, Ziva was just My Girl.
So here, in the spirit of
halfamoon's Celebration of Female Characters, I present:
Kill Ari - Part 1: catching Tony not having phone sex
This entire scene is made of awesome - best introductory scene of a character ever! Ziva walks into the office at NCIS, catches Tony 'talking' with the ghost of Kate, and promptly disconcerts him by asking if he's having phone sex.
I love the way she checks him out during the 'imagining people naked' exchange - and how Tony discovers it's not entirely comfy when the chauvinism shoe is on the other foot.
Silver War: disabling three people with a knife and a gun after 'disarming' herself.
Having been assigned as Mossad liaison to NCIS, and stuck on Gibbs' team, Ziva finds herself with a steep learning curve - and a boss who barely trusts her with a weapon. Luckily for Ziva, it's 'barely' rather than 'not at all', because she finds herself facing down three opponents, one who has a gun and a hostage. It's amazing what you can do with a spare knife, though.
Gibbs is right, Tony. You have no idea.
Hiatus - Part 2: sharing with Gibbs about her brother
With Gibbs suffering amnesia of a sort, unable to remember his team, and struggling to recall something that might stop a terrorist attack, Ziva goes to see him in the hospital. She not only reminds him that she and the others in the team look to him for leadership, but also of the relationship that exists between him and his subordinates. And as the memories begins to return, Gibbs recalls that Ziva saved his life by killing Ari and Ziva breaks down.
This is one of the first 'breaking moments' we see for Ziva in the show - how deeply it wounded her to have to kill her brother, and how much she relies on Gibbs as a compass in her life.
Painful as it is, it does the job. Gibbs is back - memory and all.
Shalom: "I am not a killer, I am a trained investigator!"
How do I love this scene? Let me count the ways!
Other than the part where she not only kicks the Iranian's ass, but also allows her ass to be kicked under the guise of entrapping the agent, there's the fact that she thought ahead and planned the entrapment.
"I am no longer just a killer, I am an investigator, too."
This line and it's delivery has so much awesome surrounding it - not least of which is because Ziva has stepped away from her Mossad roots, has isolated herself from her team-mates on NCIS, is on the run, and is at the end of her tether. It would be completely within character history for her to just kill the Iranian agent - but this old dog can learn new tricks. And, yes, her bite is much much worse than her bark!
Corporal Punishment: taking out Damon Worth, supersoldier
He's the poster boy for the marine corps. He aced the British SAS training course they sent him on. He broke out from an Iraqi prison in which he was being tortured, dragged his team-mates out of the desert. He's hopped up on steroids. And he got his hard ass pretty much kicked by Ziva - at least, kicked enough so her team-mates could rush in to tie him down.
One of these things is not like the others.
And then there's the little lion-taming thing that she does to him with just her eyes at the end of the episode.
Just. Her. Eyes.
Last Man Standing: singing in the nightclub
This is a moment of visual awesome, although also one that speaks as to just how amazingly flexible Ziva is. We, the audience, are so used to seeing Ziva as the tough girl, when she gets her slinky on and sashays around the nightclub, she blows the mind!
Let me tell you, dear readers, I SQUEED OUT LOUD when I realised it was Ziva. The sistren came downstairs to see what was going on. "Hey, isn't that Ziva? Wow, she looks good."
Yes. Yes, she does!
Enemies Domestic: fighting with Liat
With her father missing, Leon Vance in hospital, and an old mentor dead after an explosion in a safehouse, Ziva is on the hunt, along with two Mossad agents. When one of them rubs out part of a message left by Ziva's father and tries to send Ziva in the wrong direction, Ziva works out the original message and arrives at the location just behind the agents.
Pretty awesome.
She may not be Mossad anymore, but she's still Ziva and she's still dangerous. A fistfight ensues between Ziva and the young Mossad agent, Liat, and the fight is mostly this blur of two really dangerous women giving each other hell - until Eli David intervenes.
Ziva then tells her father that Hadar is dead and Vance may well be, and that she must take him in to NCIS for questioning. And he goes. Maybe going back to NCIS was always in the plan for Eli David, but he capitulates before his daughter's code of honour when the Mossad agents say he doesn't need to do any such thing.
It's a small victory for Ziva, who's struggled with her father's pride, ambitions, and distance over the last five seasons.

One of the toughest parts of putting this picspam together was picking just seven moments of awesome for Ziva. After a while, they just blend into an overall picture of clever and dangerous and deadly and wry. But these are probably some of the most memorable ones for me.
Ziva David: Made Of Awesome.
