A long and comprehensive history of creation

Jul 24, 2009 07:10

(This post is mostly for those who are, A, vaguely interested in the bible, at least when spoken of interestingly (not by me), and B, are okay with secular and critical treatments of it -- not disdainful, which sometimes becomes the same, but definitely critical. Feel free to skip the babble at the beginning.)

Okay, so here's the thing.

Semi-brief babbling about kiddie books )

OMG THIS POST ♥. I treat it like a fantasy book, a world where there's a deity instead of elves, and though Shalev probably wouldn't have called it that, he seems to take it the same way pretty regularly.

Yes, yes, yes.

1. I suddenly have two bible fics within only a few months, as opposed to, you know, none, because my brain listens too closely to the things my fingers type. I'll probably post them both in a few days.

OMG eeeeeeeeeee! I AM SO LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS. ALSO I WILL SO BE ARRANGING A BIBLEFICFEST IN SUKKOT OR SOMETHING, just give me two weeks to be post-exams. And you will just have to write more fic for that.

And don't slash God/Adam, it's creepy.
OMG NO NO IT IS NOT, why creepy? God/Adam could be so lovely! It'd be like Pygmalion, and then ending is tragic but also not; Adam is like the one Biblical character I could pair God up with and not find it creepy at all. BARRING THAT, I'LL TAKE GOD/ADAM LAMBERT. THAT COULD WORK TOO.

"zahar ve nekevav bra'am" [...] Which is to say, the first adam was created equipped ( ... )

Honestly, the part with 'post-exams' is most likely to kill my creativity, based on this year's bouts of writing, but that's still awesome! And I might even write something that doesn't happen in that damned garden! (Huh. That might be an inadvisable choice of words.)

To me they're... some version you can't get through any other combination of circumstance -- adults and children, aware and not, and the power imbalance here is both less terrible and a lot more so ( ... )

Yeah, post-exams usually signal lack of creativity for me as well, but I'll make an attempt. The holidays, hopefully, will get me in the spirit of things.

I know what you mean about God/Original Adam (can we call him Adam Prime, like Spock Prime?) and the awareness/incestuousness issues. And still I think it could be cool. And LOL at everything wanting to date you, hee.

Haha, I know you don't want me to tell you about the Selfish Giant but whatever, I live for sharing pain. Here's the post I made when I found out about it, and, quoting part of the story that's quoted in Wikipedia:

"Who hath dared to wound thee?" cried the Giant; "tell me, that I may take my big sword and slay him."

"Nay!" answered the child; "but these are the wounds of Love."

"Who art thou?" said the Giant, and a strange awe fell on him, and he knelt before the little child.

And the child smiled on the Giant, and said to him, "You let Me play once in your garden, to-day you shall come with Me to My garden, which is Paradise."

Wait, which one is non!Original Adam? The one in the garden would be Reboot Adam, I think. Wow, that's a terrifying thought. The remake of the bible to fit in with the times would be... something to see. (Not Kings, not cracky AUs, actual Noah building his ark while news anchors freak out about weird storms in the Sahara, actual Ruth seeking a husband before she gets deported, and Samuel would probably be brought up in a movie studio or something. Huh. I guess I never really wanted a degree anyway.)

You know, I absolutely forgot the end of that story. I actually find that beautiful, kind of, because I am still a giant sap. It's not my fault! A lot of people were paid to make these things moving!
