Pansy Ophelia Parkinson hates her middle name. It is priggish, pretentious, and unpalatable, and besides, didn’t Ophelia, like, lose it or something? If that’s not a bad omen, or at least a bad wish, Pansy does not know what is.
And if that’s not enough, which it is, thank you, her initials spell “POP.” Pansy thinks of bubblegum, of pins and balloons, of the jarring sound of popcorn, and (eugh) of babies.
The worst part is, “Ophelia Pansy Parkinson,” in that order, would be downright lovely.
This, above all else, is proof that Pansy’s parents are irretrievably and irreconcilably evil.
