have you read
"Revolt of the Masses" by
Ortega y Gasset? it is a warning of the rise of the mediocre "mass-man" and how the state becomes the greatest danger. i came across this book amid readings of Veblen, Klosterman, Lindblom, Friedmann... i wonder if the purpose of the dept. is to make me really confused...

have you read World on Fire by Amy Chua, or Confession of an Economic Hitman ? Amy Chua's is perhaps a more equivalent dialogue to Friedman. Honestly though I haven't got time to read much of those globalisation or so-called "political economy" titles. How do you manage all that and your courses ?
How is the study at MIT ? Now I start to think maybe I will to go back to uni sometimes soon, preferably one in the US. Excited about the free thinkers and their teaching. It seems MIT and Harvard are the best for such, you have time to drop by any social science class ?

i guess you're referring to Thomas Friedman, but in the original post i was talking about John Friedmann - a planner. there is another Friedman that you must have heard about: Milton Friedman. have you read his book "Free to Choose"? i haven't read it, but i will make time to. i looked up amazon for some reviews on "World on Fire". it seems quite interesting.
the articles/ books i referred to are more or less directly connected to the courses that i'm currently taking.
regarding MIT and Harvard as fertile land for "free thinkers" i'll be rather suspicious... we'll discuss more about this at another time.
