I've only done waltz once, most of the stuff we did was jazz and modern impressionis style, but Breanna tried to teach me to cha-cha one time... kinda fun once you get past the "Wtf, I'm doing the cha-cha! O_O" thing.

Sorry bout your kanji, but take refuge in the fact that NOBODY does well with kanji. My friend Brandy is 4th year JP and she still bombs kanji.
