Okay. we have to make a decision this week about location. Is a reception at a Mariott too corny? My ideal was to have an outdoor ceremony. Unfortunately, because my Eric is Catholic and I am not, we have to do the ceremony in a church. We are doing a July wedding in NYC, so it will still be warmish at 7pm, but not too hot. I understand what you mean. However, it is not uncommon for people to use rooms in hotels now. So no...there's nothing wrong with using the Mariott. In fact, one of my cousin's did their reception in a Mariott in Kansas City, and it really was very nice. You are creative enough and theatrical enough to make it special. As for the extra money at the theater....mmm...probably not worth it.
