well, this is going to be short and sweet. Just wanted to share my new hobby with you all:
Japanese Calligraphy!!
I went to a 書道 (shodoo=japanese calligraphy) meeting yesterday with my host mom. It was just me, the lone foreign wonder surrounded by cute old japanese ladies who were doing their best to show me the correct way to write the characters. No english, go me!!!
This kanji is the one for "play" (in Japanese, asobu 遊ぶ)but its stylized so its hard for the unaccoustomed eye to read. Its wayyyyy harder to write than it looks. I must have did this one like 30 times, and this one was my best, i think... even though its not great.
This is the kanji for "flower" (in Japanese, hana 花). It's not great, but its hard to get the strokes right, since i haven't been writing kanji for more than 1 year, and since I'm not used to using the special brushes with soft, long bristles.
Yup, 2 kanji + 6 hours=what i did yesterday. I had so much fun dipping the huge brushes into buckets of ink then throwing it down on a huge sheet of paper like a little child. yup, art is fun!
