“Sculpture is what you bump into when you back up to see a painting.” - Barnett Newman

As an art major, I'm  sure it's somewhat blasphemous confessing that I have agreed with this statement (I even laughed when I first heard it because I took it as truth) up until this last quarter studying at UCLA.   So what has, in having such a passion for art ( Read more... )

you made a bed!

I dont understand how people make real things out of the things in their heads. It completely baffles me, but I think it is amazing, and Im really glad that youre finding even more new ways to use your talent. I love it :]

Hm well I feel like whenever I delegate a title to anything, I always forget it. But this one should remain as it is:

Automysonuptasymmetriphobia.

:]

Well the assignment called for creating something furniture-based. And my initial idea was to play with the idea of phobia furniture and being suffocated by your fears, having your surroundings foster those irrational thoughts. Then I started researching some of these weird phobias (because there are a ton out there) and I focused on three. Asymmetriphobia (fear of asymmetrical things), Anuptaphobia (fear of staying single), and Automysophobia (fear of being dirty). There you have it, a dirty, asymmetrical, narrow bed. The stuff on the bed is actually chicken poop (or, "chickenshit") which was meant to infer the slang term for being a coward, though not many people got that when I explained it in class, ha ha.

i've always wanted to make something that looked like a chair or a couch and put it in a museum and when people try to sit down on it to take a break, a guard would yell at them.

bwahahaha.

hey! don't sit on the art!

>:D

Man, what a meanie. I'd probably be a victim though. Museums are so tiring.

Tiffany! That's brilliant dahling, I swear I could have seen something like that in MOMA. Now all you have to do is make more and invite us to your gallery showings filled with champagne and hors d'oeurves!

I definitely prefer this style over nude sculptures. I love seeing how people use ordinary routine scraps and even trash and tell a story. It has a certain look about it that I love. And there's something very legit to see your work in a white room, do you know what I mean? I like it a lot.

Hmmm I'm afraid my gallery showings won't be all you've cracked them out to be.
Instead of a white room, it'll be like a dark alley somewhere,
Instead of champagne it'll be tap water
and instead of hors d'oeurves it'll be spam :D

you know what
THAT'S BETTER
it's real and raw- very much like the materials you used in your sculpture

ah wonderful thinking dahling

Did I ever tell you about the assignment I had to do which we had to use a non-art item to recreate a famous work of art. I used Coffee to make "Suicide Victim"

That's what this reminds me of. It's really awesome. Sounds like a great class. no cutting fingers, kay?
BTW, I'm not sure if I really want to know, but I have to ask... Where the heck did you get chicken poop?
