I have been sitting here watching the horrible devastation Katrina has brought onto the Gulf coast. My heart goes out to all of them, as I could not imagine what is like to have my home and my city completely destroyed and/or under water ( Read more... )

I have also been watching TV every free moment for the past few days and can't fathom why the officials in our country aren't responding better. I can understand that this is a natural disaster of such enormous scope that coordinating relief is difficult--but I will never really understand why 99.9% of the faces I have seen on TV are black and why people are dying because of dehydration and why we have expensive and complicated technology to use when killing people in Iraq, but not when the people who need us most are in danger in our own country. I too, wish I had something to give.

New Orleans was the only place that ever felt like home to me. Bush is a useless racist fucker. I hated him from day 1 but now it's unparalleled. The FEMA people are oblivious. What a nightmare ( ... )

I totally understand your frustration. It seems like Bush does not care because the majority of the faces of those suffering are poor and black which is a group he could care less about. I bet if the people left in NOLA were mostly white and affluent, the response would have been quicker and better. Bush plans on flying over NOLA and only going in person to the coastal regions of Mississippi, just further illustrating how he could care less about the poor in urban areas. In fact it took him over a week to visit any hurricane devastated areas in person, which is just plain crazy.
I am just so frustrated by the inaction of the federal government. The response to this tragedy has been terrible.
