Apparently "Cloverfield" was the working title of the film, and that was a street near someone's office. It was going to be changed, but then the viral campaign caught on and they stuck with it.

I didn't see the film and I'm not sure I'll spend the money when I hardly ever see films anyway, but that's what I saw on the internet.

If I was going to name this film after a street in my town, it'd be Moorpark.

I don't think I can do any better than that. I think I know where that is.

*reads other comments* The military had a code name for the case? They thought the sudden destruction of a large city could be kept secret?

OK, I guess the military would have a code name for it but they might as well go with "Giant New York Monster" in a case like that.

seems this film its not worth even the popcorn...
I thought they called Cloverfield 'cause that was the name of the street where the party was, no idea really...
^^I'll better go watch "Enchanted" bet I'll have a better time.

Gojira is a fun name for a monster- Cloverfield sounds like a name for a cat...or Parakeet or an elementary school. And apparently that's not even the name for the monster!-- just the "code name" the military gave the case. And yeah, if you thought Signs was upsetting, I doubt you could sit thru this one, Ne-chan.

I'm Ok with aliens, I actually love the ALIEN movies. But the thing is that when a movie has too much suspense and suddenly something jumps, I freak out. Also can't stand vampire movies... hate anything that touches my neck so I react to the screen. once I even cracked my neck from cringing too hard.

I couldn't agree more. At least you wrote a scathing review with minimal swearing. I doubt I could do the same.

To give it some credit, there was some fun special effects--and some fun moments-- but all smothered in cheese.

I was considering going to a free sneak preview, for the sole fact that it was free, but I had to work, so I didn't. I'm glad I didn't waste my time. Hollywood these days.. Really, the latest movie I've seen that was even "good" was Sweeney Todd, and I only enjoyed it because it was a musical. 'Could've gone without the buckets of blood.

Thanks for posting this though, it's nice to hear a review on this movie.
