Lots of stuff to talk about
Domestic Animals: I am falling in love with the horses that live next door. They always hang around our side of the fence and I like to sneak them carrot treats and pet them. I want so bad to get in there and give them a good brushing and put ointment on their fly bites and untangle their manes and tails and.....just give them love! The other day my morning was ruined because as I looked out the window I say them all laying down. One of the paints was completely on his side and the other two were on ther bellies next to him. I watched him a little bit and he didn't move. I got in my car and drove up next to them. He was moving but barely. Nick and drove up to the neighbors and their gate was padlocked and no one was home. I called my aunt because she has rescued horses and figured she would know what to do. My cousin told me to call animal control because they could legally get inside the fence and check him out. So as I'm looking up the number I see a neighbor across from the pasture outside on her phone. So we went down and introduced ourselves to her. She was concerned about the horses too. As we talked down there the down horse got up and started grazing. Thankfully. I was just so upset and crying all morning because I don't think they are well cared for. Their hooves are all split and cracked and they are always dirty and fly bitten. Maybe this is normal for draft horses, since they are just grass burners anyway. But still. They deserve lovin! They are super sweet :) Lochy finally got the courage to give them a pat.
Wild Animals: We have an injured fox that lives in our gully. Its a wooded strip of land that runs between our house and our long dead end road. One morning I heard an animal crying and drove up to the end of our road. The fox was limping around and crying. I assume he got hit by a car. I have been able to get pretty close to him a couple times in my car. He doesn't seem to be afraid of me, which is not normal behaviour for a fox. I saw him once running up our driveway with a crow in his mouth. The other day he was sitting in our backyard just watching us. I messaged my friend who is in conservation law enforcement. She said that the game warden would most likely grant us permission to shoot the fox ourselves but that they probably couldn't come out due to budget cuts. I don't want to kill the fox (and we don;t even own a gun) but I am starting to feel weird about being outside.
My kitchen: I think my kitchen is cursed. I consider myself a very good cook, But everything that I have made in this new kitchen has been difficult or horrible. I guess I'm just not in my groove yet. It helps that we painted it, it feels more like mine. Today I had a bunch of projects going while Lochlan napped. I had pizza dough rising for dinner, sourdough proofing for a cookout tomorrow, I was cooking bacon for a quiche for lunch and I started a macaroni salad for tomorrow too. Well I had a sourdough starter overflow and then I dropped a plate of bacon on my foot and it smashed into hundreds of pieces and cut my toes. This is the second plate that I have broken this month. I feel like a clumsy newbie in the kitchen. Poor nick.
Poop: Lochlan has been taking off his diaper after he poops and smearing it. Yesterday I was trying to finish my painting projects and he did it three yes THREE times! The last week I have been catching him in the act, wrestling him to the floor and managing it but since I didn't have my attention on him yesterday he managed to grind it into the carpet twice. Good thing I have a bissel clean machine. I don't think he is doing it maliciously but he just hates the feeling of a poop (which he calls turtles) The first time yesterday he was sitting next to his diaper watching tv, the second time he had stepped in it and smeared it on himself by accident, but I also noticed that he had gotten into the wipe box and it looks like he was trying to wipe himself. (we then decided to ducttape his diaper closed) well I forgot to ducttape this next dipe so when he was upstairs he took his dipe off and then threw it down the stairs at me and it landed on a hook by the sink (turtle intact) and then he turned around as I chased him up the stairs he jumped and rolled in our bed. I am soooooo tired of cleaning up poop! I feel like this may be a pottyleaning sign but I can't get him to sit on the potty. What I have been doing is having him help me put his turtles in the toilet. We say bubbye and he flushes them, so maybe one day it will click that he can go in the toilet.
Sleep: Is sooooo good! Lochlan has a room all set up for him and for the first time he decided he wanted to go ninight in his own bed! So what did Nick and I do? We dtd in our own bed for the first time in a long time. Maybe a year? So I couldn't sleep very well but Lochlan slept well. He did call for me twice but went right back to sleep. I ended up falling asleep in his bed later on in the night. I got him an eggcrate today becase that bed is a hard slab. I'm so pleased that we're done nursing, done cosleeping, and done with the frustrating all night waking. Maybe its time to think about another one because if I'm going to have to do all this over again I may as well get it all over with at once! I just couldn't imagine myself being pregnant with a nursing cosleeping toddler.
