Never let anyone tell you that so many Classical and Renaissance artists depicted their subjects nude out of appreciation for the human form, or any bullshit like that. No, it was because togas, tunicas, and other similar sorts of drapey-fabric garments are HELL ON EARTH to render artistically. HELL ON EARTH I TELL YOU.

I was of the scholarly opinion that it was because before movable type, porn was hard to come by.

Which certainly gives Archimedes' screw a whole new level of comprehension.
