You're not alone; I believe the same thing. However, I went to school with a girl who told me that she wanted to be a marine biologist, but she knew she was going to grow up to be a trophy wife, because she didn't have the brains to be a marine biologist. I told her that if she wanted to do it, she had the brains, and I knew that she had the grades, but she just looked at me blankly. I think as long as people look at me blankly when I say something like that, or as long as people believe they need a significant other to be fulfilled, or [insert your own stereotype here] not everyone has a choice. Your family and the women you grew up around obviously do, and kudos for everyone involved in making that happen.
I asked a 7 year old girl yesterday if she wanted to be a vetrinarian when she grew up since she keeps on saying how much she loves animals. She said, "no, I want to be a mother when I grow up." I said, "you could be both" but she wants to be a mom.
Even today I find so many people who are so scared of being called a feminist and they act like it's a bad word and something bad to be called. It's frustrating.
