Just a quick update on life. Went to Lana's folks place for Christmas. Lana's Grandma passed away, so while that was sad, it was also a blessing in that is was pretty painless for her, relatively quick, and we got a chance to say goodbye to her and hopefully let her know that we loved her ( Read more... )

Sounds like a busy-as-heck day, but you were able to perform a valuable service for some people in need (and get paid for it, I presume).

Glad to know that the passing of Lana's grandmother took place in the best possible circumstances, even if it was a sad occasion. Being able to say goodbye, and knowing that she knew you loved her -- those things make a big difference.

I didn't know that you had a djembe. Our music team at church includes a djembe-player. Well, actually, she alternates between guitar and djembe. We have two djembes, I believe, which one of the team members purchased in his African travels.

Remind me, when will you be going to San Francisco?

I hope that you and Lana enjoy New Year's Eve and New Year's.

Cheers,

Bruce

It was /ridiculously/ busy, but I think what I did turned out well, so, yay.

Yeah, I only got my djembe for my birthday a month ago. It's made in Canada and is extremely... well, Canadian. I kind of love it. It's stringed with a nylon cord (I swear, it looks a bit like it's out of a Mountain Equipment Co-op catalog).

Going to San Francisco at the end of January for the World Student Christian Federation regional retreat.

Happy New Year's to you, too!

Wow, sounds like you had quite the Christmas there...deaths around the holidays can make an intense time that much more intense...eep. But hopefully, like you say, it was also a good way to be around her to say goodbye, etc.

Re: vacation from vacation. I concur. We'll make up for it in SF! :) Wooo! And hope you have an enjoyable time at home for new year's. All the best!

Tell me about the Inclusive Bible? Is this a new edition I haven't heard of? God I need to keep more up-to-date on my bible editions! :)

Glad you enjoyed the gifts you received. :) Let me know if you have any desire for pink and purple SPARKLY socks or a floral calendar featuring monthly psalms. ;)

Sorry, I really am probably not in the best headspace to be providing cheerful comments. Well, I do mean well. Take care eh? And all the best for 2009.

And thanks, probably more than you could know, for your support and compassion and friendship in '08. Really.

Inclusive Bible -- translated by "Priests for Equality." I've had copies of the New Testament and the Psalms from when those were first translated. Sometimes really good, sometimes... well, poetically I sometimes find them lacking. But it's pretty much completely de-gendered and uses very feminist-y theology to inform the translation. Not always 100% on, but very good. Pretty recent, too, that it's in one volume.

Oh, god... the monthly psalm calendars... *is frightened*

Sorry to hear life has been so... well, horribly shitty for you lately. Keeping you in my thoughts.
