Why is it still illegal? Gay marriage is legal. Plural marriage should be legal too. I just don't understand what is so bad about being poly amourus, it's a lifestyle. Sure it spawned from a weird religion, but its more than that now.
Because marriage is a specific type of contract between two people, and laws would have to be rewritten for it to work for three plus. Especially considering people could be added or subtracted from the marriage at any given time. Would each person have an individual marriage to the others, or would it be considered one marriage?
Also because historical polygamy involved child marriage, ousting of male children, oppression and general abusive patriarchy. And an unpopular religion.
Possibly because modern poly people are alternative enough that they may not be as concerned about lobbying for marriage rights anyhow? Not sure about that one.
Well, I was more concerned with the fact that people in these types of relationships would be sent to jail for poly-amoury. I know polygamy is just the man one but I didn't remember what the other was called.
its still illegal because we still have religion. scientifically speaking humans are NOT monogamous. if the old white haired politicians would actually follow the separation of state from religion this would not be an issue.
How is restricting who you love not a violation of a person's rights and freedoms.
I think if everyone is of legal, consenting age, then who cares?
In Ontario it's still illegal to have gay sex if you're under 18 unless you're married. (Mind you federal courts have reversed this upon appeals saying it's unconstitutional and discriminatory).
I think they should just make it you have to be 18 to marry in general. Marry one person, marry many, whatever. 18. If you can't vote, you can't marry.
