Two wonderful friends of mine,
rosepurr and
thndrstd, have been doing this music meme thing. I like what they have done with it and how it tells a lot about a person while sharing interesting music. So I am going to do something similar.
Now although it says "day" in the original list, I do not think that I will stick to that. Some days I might do multiple. Some days I might not do any. I am not doing thirty consecutive days or even thirty consecutive posts. I am putting these up when I feel like it.
Picking my favorite song is a lot like picking my favorite color. Or my favorite book. Or my favorite comic. It depends on my mood. But there are a few that stick with me. And this one in particular will probably always be in my top ten.
This is the song that started my love of the Beatles. Oh, I knew who they were before I heard this song. My father would play his old LPs pretty often, but he mainly had their first albums. It was not until high school that I heard the white album and Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. It was then that I decided that while most of the people that I knew who loved the Beatles were fans of John or Paul, it was George who really rang my bell.
Yes, I know that Eric Clapton played lead guitar on this recording. And he did a great job. But George wrote this one. He sang this one. And it's not just the weeping guitar that hooked me. It's the lyrics. It's the melody. It's the whole package. Every single word, every single note just resonates with me. It vibrates through my electrons and fills my body from sole to soul.
I can play a decent version of it, but I have never gotten it to where I feel comfortable performing it in front of an audience. This is not really a surprise. I do not really play guitar for anyone but myself. But this is one of those songs that I think that I will play for someone ... someday.
