Today nature & Penny collided! First the
The apartment 2 stories above us had the water heater pressure valve break & it flooded my apartment! Maintenance had a big job of cleanup and now we have loud fans trying to fully dry the carpet after the extraction guys came.
Then the
Then tonight Ben tells me to come outside, if I'm not scared of snakes, and shows me a 3.5' snake that is crawling around ON THE SIDEWALK LEADING TO THE APARTMENTS FROM THE PARKING LOT!!! I say we need to call someone to take care of it before someone gets bit, as it's just 8 o clock and at 9 people start coming home and if he's still around it won't be good. Around 9:30 a cop walks by who lives in the complex with his daughter (who LOVES snakes) and checks out what's going on. He calls cops in who are on duty & they come & look at it. Looks aggressive, could be poisonous. Either a banded water snake or moccasin. They ain't finding out the fun way which, so they call in the supervisor head honcho guy. He comes in with his snake clamp & clamps it down & fully examines it in good light & informs us it is NOT poisonous. It is a banded water snake, very common, and while the bite can be painful it won't kill you. It is, however, an aggressive snake and from "growing up" (i.e. evolving) by the moccasin they have adapted moccasin style behaviors. Some of these interesting behaviors include looking, behaving, and pretending to be a water moccasin! When trapped in the snake clamp it actually adjusts its size and head shape to look more like the moccasin! Insane!
Anyway. The water is cleaned up, the repair has been done, and the snake has been relocated! Another fun day I'll never want to forget. Ah, the stories when I'm old I'll have to tell!
