i wrote 4 pages in a new church yesterday. i probably won't be going back to that one.

here's an excerpt:

"...Let God's truth's stand alone, they are capable of withstanding the scrutiny. Stop preaching in church-saturated religion-speak. stop yelling to be heard. God's trth is loud enough. Be entusiatic - don't feign some sort of false calm, be ( Read more... )

There is a problem that arises in war, why a single commander is expected to lead charges in every direction at once.

The bored people in the padded seats need to hear what is being said by the man behind the pulpit.

The man behind the pulpit should be telling them that they, yes they, should be leading everyone else around them in a charge. People who do not think of themselves as leaders feel they need permission to act, pastors and speakers are the one who should be giving it.

I find to often that Pastors and speakers think the people they are speaking to don't know enough to lead a charge for christ in thier lives. They think they need to teach people to be better people, not lead people at being better christians.

If people such as you and I keep our charges going, I believe others will follow. I believe others will begin to lead too.

i think i understand most of what you're saying - that i should be equally as aggravated at the people as i am at the preachers.

and yes.

and agreed.

but i think it starts at the top. when we hear dull uninspiring, uninspired sermons so chock-full of church-cliches and unintelligble religion-speak, it makes it even more difficult to conquer on a daily basis. how many great battles have been won or lost because of the intensity (or lack thereof) of a general's passion? when that passion is evident, clear, and understood, it will inspire, and cause those who are inspired to pass the vision along.

yes, we have to lay the groundwork on our own, in our prayer closets - i don't want meaningless excitement that will fade. i just hate it when church is more depressing/boring than inspiring, and i hate it when people come into church for the first time, and haven't grown up in it, all they hear is gobbledygook that they have no way of understanding.
